Damian Lillard Waived!!!

As of July 1, 2025, the Milwaukee Bucks have waived nine-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard. This decision was made to clear cap space for the signing of center Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million contract.

Lillard, who is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon sustained during the 2025 playoffs, was expected to miss most or all of the 2025–26 season.  The Bucks will stretch the remaining $113 million of his contract over five years under the NBA’s “stretch and release” provision, allowing them to sign Turner while still honoring Lillard’s contract.

The move has reportedly upset franchise star Giannis Antetokounmpo, adding further uncertainty to his future with the team amid trade speculation involving the Spurs, Heat, Warriors, and Knicks.

Lillard is now free to sign with any team as he continues his rehabilitation. The Miami Heat—a team Lillard previously expressed interest in—could be potential suitors.
